NOW MOWING!

LAWN MOWER RACING FEATURED IN MAJOR HOLLYWOOD FILM OPENING APRIL 2:

SEASON SCHEDULE RELEASED APRIL FOOL’S DAY

Julia Stiles, Luke Mably Star in Paramount Pictures “Prince & Me”

Glenview, IL (April 1, 2004).  In its annual observance of April Fool’s Day, the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA) has announced a major motion picture featuring a lawn mower race will help launch the official opening of the 2004 lawn mower racing season.

“The Prince and Me”, a Paramount film starring Julia Stiles and Luke Mably, opens nationwide on April 2, just in time for the traditional April Fool’s Day announcement of dates for the upcoming STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series.  The USLMRA served as technical consultants to the movie’s producers, ensuring the lawn mower racing segment met exacting sod slinging standards including the mowers’ technical modifications, race track configuration and type of straw for the straw bales.

In the Prince and Me, Paige (Julia Stiles), a pre-med student from Wisconsin meets fellow student Eddie (Luke Mably) who is actually Edward, the Crown Prince of Denmark.  Eddie has come to America to find himself and escape the burdens of royalty, while Paige cannot be bothered with distractions.  Paige brings Eddie home to the family farm where he sees the family’s racing lawn mowers in the barn.  In an action-packed race, Eddie drives his mower to victory and eventually wins Paige’s heart.

“We’ve gone Hollywood,” quipped Bruce “Mr. Mow It All” Kaufman, President of the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association.  “This year, April Fool’s Day will be a two-day celebration, with the announcement of our racing schedule on April 1 and the Prince and Me opening April 2.  We look forward to millions of Americans seeing this movie and watching love bloom at the lawn mower races.”

The USLMRA was founded on April Fool’s Day 1992 as a promotion for STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer, an engine additive that keeps gas fresh for quick starts in power equipment, boats, cars, trucks and motorhomes.  As a result of its long-standing title sponsorship, STA-BIL has been on the “cutting edge” of America’s most affordable family-oriented amateur motorsport.

The STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series features riding lawn mowers racing in four road track classes including Stock (10 mph), IMOW (25 mph), Prepared (50 mph) and Factory Experimental (60 mph).  All cutting blades are removed for safety.  There is no purse money as racers compete for trophies, glory, bragging rights and a national points championship.  The USLMRA sanctions 20 Local Chapters nationwide and has 400 members.

Additional sponsors include 104+ Octane Boost, HEET GasLine Antifreeze, No Leak Premium Sealers, Alumaseal, Carolina Footwear and Double-H Boots.

STA-BIL Lawn Mower Racing is televised on ESPN2 and has been featured on ABC-TV's Home Improvement, the Discovery Channel, the Paul Harvey Radio Network, and in The New York Times, USA Today, Sports Illustrated, the Wall Street Journal, Autoweek, Brand Week, Modern Maturity and the Southern Lawn Mower Dealers Newsletter.
