The 2002 STA-BIL Nationals Championship Lawn Mower Races expanded to two days of sod slinging action over Labor Day Weekend, as more than 70 Turf Titans from 22 states competed over the course of two days at the Richland County Fairgrounds in Mansfield , Ohio .

Hosted by the News Journal Newspaper in Mansfield , Ohio as a fundraising event for the Newspaper In Education (NIE) program, the STA-BIL Keeps Gas Fresh Finals were held on Saturday, August 31 and the Coors Light Challenge of Champions took place on Sunday, Sept. 1. The fastest 15 racers from the Saturday race competed on Sunday, with 2002 STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series Points Champions also being crowned.

Due to the growth of U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA) Local Chapters in 2002, the STA-BIL Nationals expanded to become a two-day lawn mower racing extravaganza. There are currently 19 USLMRA Local Chapters nationwide with at least 10 more set to come on board for 2003.

The 2002 STA-BIL Nationals also included the debut of two new USLMRA sponsors - Double-H Boots and Carolina Shoe Co. as well as an on site film crew from the Discovery Channel shooting a one-hour documentary which is scheduled to air in first quarter of 2003.

USLMRA sponsors include STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer, an engine additive that keeps stored gas fresh for quick, easy engine starts in power equipment, cars, trucks and boats, 104+ Octane Boost, HEET GasLine Antifreeze and No Leak Automotive Sealers.
