NO FOOLIN!  2003 LAWN MOWER RACING SEASON FEATURES

NATIONAL TV, DEBUT OF WORLD'S FIRST MONSTER MOWER

Glenview, IL (April 1, 2003).  In its annual observance of April Fool's Day, the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA) has announced the 2003 STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series schedule, network television coverage and the debut of the world's first Monster Mower.

From the pine trees of Maine to the grasslands of Kansas, from Maryland's Chesapeake Bay to Florida's Atlantic Coast, lawn mower racing promises to achieve new levels of visibility with nationally televised events on Discovery Channel and ESPN2 as well as introductory appearances of the "Monster Mower."

Discovery Channel
The Discovery Channel will air "Turf Rockets: The Cutting Edge!" a one-hour documentary on America's fastest growing grass roots motorsport on May 12 at 9:00 PM and midnight; May 17 at 1:00 AM and10:00 PM; and May 18 at noon (all times E.S.T.).

STA-BIL Nationals Championship Race on ESPN2
The 12th annual STA-BIL Keeps Gas Fresh Nationals and Challenge of Champions, the year's culminating race, will be held on Labor Day Weekend, August 30-31 at the Richland County Fairgrounds in Mansfield, Ohio and will be televised on ESPN2 later this fall.

Monster Mower
The 2003 season will also feature the debut of the world's first "Monster Mower," a riding lawn mower re-tooled after the popular monster trucks and fitted with a V-twin, custom racing engine that puts out 40 horsepower; chrome headers, brush guard and roll bar; delta-style wing; 31" x 15.5" x 15" tires and full four-wheel drive independent steering.  Plans are in the works for the Monster Mower to set a world record for lawn mower jumping in 2003.

"I can think of no better way to spend an afternoon, than joining a few dozen friends to race a riding lawn mower at 60 mph," quipped "Mr. Mow It All," Bruce Kaufman, President of the 12-year-old U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association.  "Lawn mower racing embodies the core values of all that is American: family, ingenuity, too much free time and the warm spirit of camaraderie that makes this country great."

The STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series began on April Fool's Day 1992 as a promotion for STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer, an engine additive that keeps gas fresh for quick starts in power equipment, cars, trucks and boats.  As a result of its 12-year title sponsorship, STA-BIL has been on the "cutting edge" of America's most affordable family-oriented amateur motorsport.

The STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series features riding lawn mowers racing in four road track classes including Stock (10 mph), IMOW (25 mph), Prepared (50 mph) and Factory Experimental (60 mph).  All cutting blades are removed for safety.  There is no purse money as racers compete for trophies, glory and bragging rights.  The USLMRA has 18 sanctioned local chapters and 400 members nationwide.

Sponsors include STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer, 104+ Octane Boost, HEET GasLine Antifreeze, No Leak Premium Sealers, Alumaseal, Carolina Footwear and Double-H Boots.

STA-BIL Lawn Mower Racing has been featured on ABC-TV's Home Improvement, CNN, Inside Edition, CBS Early Show, The Disney Channel, ESPN 2, the Paul Harvey Radio Network, and in The New York Times, USA Today,  Sports Illustrated, Wall Street Journal, Autoweek, Brand Week, Modern Maturity and The Southern Lawn Mower Dealers Newsletter
