NO FOOLIN……..
LAWN MOWER RACING SEASON BEGINS APRIL 1
WITH
‘DRIVE YOUR LAWN MOWER TO WORK DAY’
Glenview, IL (April 1, 2004). In its annual observance of April Fool’s Day, the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA) has declared Friday, April 1 as “Drive Your Lawn Mower To Work Day” and announced the 2005 STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series schedule.
Across the country lawn mower racers will observe April Fool’s Day by driving their one-of-a-kind racing lawn mowers to work to honor the American values of ingenuity, family fun and a weed-free yard.
“For lawn mower racers like Turfinator, Sodzilla and The Lawn Ranger, April Fool’s Day is a national holiday,” quipped Bruce “Mr. Mow It All” Kaufman, President of the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association, founded 14 years ago on April Fool’s Day. “Since most lawn mower racers can’t get the day off, we decided to drive our mowers to work. But, unlike other groups who invite folks to take their daughters, sons and even their pets to work, we have no cause other than to announce the 2005 STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series schedule and ask our bosses for time off so we can go racing.”
The STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series features riding lawn mowers racing in four road track classes including Stock (10 mph), IMOW (25 mph), Prepared (50 mph) and Factory Experimental (60 mph). All cutting blades are removed for safety and there is no purse money as racers compete for trophies, glory, bragging rights and a national points championship. The USLMRA sanctions 22 Local Chapters nationwide and has 400 members.
The STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series started as a promotion for STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer, an engine additive that keeps gas fresh for quick starts in power equipment, cars, trucks and boats. As a result of its long-standing title sponsorship, STA-BIL has been on the “cutting edge” of America’s most affordable family-oriented amateur motorsport.
Additional sponsors include 104+ Octane Boost, HEET GasLine Antifreeze, Diesel Power, No Leak Premium Sealers and Alumaseal
STA-BIL Lawn Mower Racing is televised on ESPN2 and has been featured on ABC-TV's Home Improvement, the Discovery Channel, the Paul Harvey Radio Network, and in The New York Times, USA Today, Sports Illustrated, the Wall Street Journal, Autoweek, Brand Week, Modern Maturity and The Southern Lawnmmower Dealers Newsletter.
