Everything You Ever Wanted to "Mow" About
The STA-BIL Lawn Mower Racing Series - THE MOW THE MERRIER!!!
Each time you start up your riding lawn mower engine and the hint of exhaust
fumes rise to your flaring nostrils, you're reminded you missed your call as a
champion Indy race car driver! Well here's the chance to grab some of that glory
as a member of the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association and participant of the
STA-BIL Lawn Mower Racing Series.
With
STA-BIL Regional, Mow Down and USLMRA-sanctioned Local Chapter races open
to anyone who owns a riding lawn, hundreds of enthusiasts have caught the "lawn
mower racing bug" and joined the USLMRA in turning a weekend chore into a
competitive sport.
How do you participate?
If you own a riding lawn mower and know how to have a lot of fun, then you are
already on your way! Just fill out the enclosed membership application, send it
back to the USLMRA and we'll follow up with a confirmation that we have received
your application, your very own membership card and official Rules and
Regulations Handbook.
We are forming LOCAL CHAPTERS!
Whether you decide to put together a complete
"pit crew," race team complete with sponsors (and a fan club), organize local
clubs or a state association, or go it alone as a "lawn ranger," you'll never
look at the weekend chore of mowing your yard quite the same again. Contact us
at
letsmow@aol.com or by phone at (847) 729-7363 to learn how you can organize a
Sanctioned USLMRA Local Chapter.
Who will you be competing against?
To make the racing fair to everyone, you will be grouped with other racers that
have comparable mower equipment. Your lawn mower's horsepower and any
modifications you make are taken into consideration when establishing the class
in which you will compete. Our Stock Class is for regular, garden variety lawn
mowers that could roll out of anyone's garage. The IMOW class is a more
legislated class with mowers having similar modifications. The Prepared and
Factory Experimental Classes are more wide open and allow you to make additional
modifications (within the rules) to your machine. There is a class for just
about everyone who loves to “tinker!”
What about safety?
Although this is a sport for people who enjoy being a little zany and having
fun, we take safety very seriously. You'll be asked to make a few temporary and
simple modifications to your mower to be in the race. (Technical assistance is
available). For example: blades must be removed, automatic shut-off (kill)
switches installed or enabled, and all stock safety guards must be in good
working order. Your mower will be inspected by officials on race day. You'll
also be required to wear protective clothing and a helmet.
