On Your Mark, Get Set, Mow will be the call as the STA-BIL Lawn & Garden Mower Racing Series tears up the turf April 27-28, for a double-header race day, tours of the garage where the World’s Fastest Lawn Mower was built and a screening of a new lawn mower racing documentary film.

Bladeless riding lawn mowers from across the nation will kick grass at the STA-BIL Southern Shootout, Saturday, April 28 at Windy Hill Mower Speedway 100 Windy Hill Rd. McDonough, Georgia, as the Peach State hosts the 2nd stop on the nation’s oldest and largest national lawn mower racing touring circuit. Race times are 1:00 and 7:00 p.m. General admission is $8.00 for adults, free for kids nine and under. The STA-BIL Southern Shootout is sanctioned by the United States Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA), celebrating 20 years of sod slinging this year.

To mark this “mowmentous” occasion, the Hon. Billy Copeland, Mayor of McDonough, will declare April 28 as “Mow Town Day in McDonough” to recognize that lawn mower racing turns a weekend chore into a competitive sport and to celebrate the USLMRA’s 20th Anniversary.

Other event highlights include:

  • An appearance of Gold Eagle’s Engine Answerman, Bobby Cleveland of Locust Grove, Georgia who set the World Land Speed Record of 96.529 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats (Sept. 25, 2010). Cleveland will showcase his record-setting mower that reclaimed the world record he originally set in 2006.
  • A free screening of the new documentary film “Ready, Set, Mow: A Tale of Hope, Redemption and Lawn Mower Racing” that explores the world of lawn mower racing through the eyes of a Michigan family who has lost six members to Huntington’s disease and uses the sport to raise funds for research.
  • Tours of the Bobby Cleveland (BC) Racing Facility, also known as the “TajMOWhal” a 1,200 square foot custom speed shop built exclusively for designing and building racing mowers including the World’s Fastest Lawn Mower from the Bonneville Salt Flats, the World Record Setting Monster Mower and numerous STA-BIL Series championship race mowers.

The free movie screening and garage tours will be held at BC Racing Headquarters, 1313 BC Drive, Locust Grove, GA, Friday, April 27, 8:00 p.m.
