From Kathy Rose, UPIR President

We each concentrate on our areas of expertise. We are all volunteers for the Upper Peninsula International Raceway. We partner with the Delta County Chamber of Commerce to raise funds for a multi-use and multi-season motorsports facility at the Escanaba Fairgrounds. We have a 1/5 mile clay “D” shaped track and we will cut in a smaller course for lawn mower racing.

Stock car racing has a long history in Escanaba, but was absent for too many years and no chance of returning while the state owned the fairgrounds. We held three races last year and ran 4/6 cylinder cars, tuff trucks and micro sprints. Our fourth race was more of a thank you to drivers and fans. We kept prices low to make our events family affordable. All concessions were $2, gate admission $5, pit passes $10 and racing fee $10. Each race our car count grew and the response was overwhelming. This year we are hosting five races and also running the Demo Derby during the fair in August. . We are lining up special events for each of our race dates. We have the Milwaukee Vintage Modified Club coming on July 30th and a bus/van/cycle stunt show and possibly 3/4 scale modified cars from Alabama.

We will be teaming up with Shannon Kayhart and the Wisconsin Lawn Mower Racing Association to get up to speed as quickly as possible. We are very excited to be adding Lawn Mower Racing to our racing programs! Hope to see you in Escanaba!

It has come to our attention that there is some confusion regarding the July 2-3 Race Weekends in Estacada, Oregon and August 5-6 at Bowles Farms in Maryland.

*** Both weekends will include STA-BIL Lawn & Garden Mower Racing Series National Points Races AND U.S. Open Events. ***

  • YES: These are STA-BIL Series U.S. Points Races
  • YES: We will run U.S. Open Classes
  • YES: We will run U.S. Open Single and U.S. Open Twins
  • YES: If you bring a mower, and it is deemed safe, you will race
  • YES: These two events will be awesome
  • YES: There will be some tow money available (to be determined)
  • YES: We’d really like you to Pre-Register - CLICK HERE!

These events will be a lot of fun and will give racers a chance to obtain STA-BIL Series Points AND enjoy some Open Class Racing!

We’ve also been getting many inquiries and requests about a U.S. Open Points Series and we are working on that for 2012 – our 20th Anniversary season. Stay tuned!

Says SOLMRAC President Nancy Willcut:

All our members have raced at least one year. Some have raced 2 or 3 years in and around Missouri and Arkansas and now we’ve decided we’d like to race a bit closer to home.

We have a great relationship with the crew from the Arkansas Lawn Mower Racing Association including Carl Kirkendoll, Tony Loveless and L&M Racing.

More dates to come.

All mowers welcome!!!

From All American Race Founder George Herrin:

Myself, Larry Favors and Jeannie Riley will be teaming up with the USLMRA and the Great City of Stevenson Alabama in 2011 for the 5th Annual ALL AMERICAN on November 5-6, 2011.

This will make this event one of the biggest and best events ever. With this will be some changes for the good. As we all know last year we lost a great friend and racer at this event. With that said and with teaming up with the USLMRA for this event, the name will now be the SAM ROGERS U.S. ALL AMERICAN OPEN. This event will not only be a tribute to Sam Rogers from here on out, but it will also be as always an opportunity for everyone to come together for some great racing.

The weekend will be OPEN to everyone from coast to coast everyone is invited. No memberships required, no race fees, and with the move to Stevenson Alabama (Official Site, Wikipedia) and all the room there will be no limit to the amount of racers. We have room for everyone and this truly will be for everyone. For those of you who have raced in Stevenson, you know we will be treated well by this community that Loves Lawn Mower Racing.

We will be posting updates and information on an ongoing basis. There will also be an All American on-line registration process on the USLMRA web site similar to the existing form now available for the other 3 US Open Events, so stay tuned for more updates.

We will have Kerry Evans of EOP Promotions on hand and the full support and resources of the USLMRA to make sure everyone has a great weekend, and that we honor the spirit of our Dear Departed Friend, Smiling’ Sam Rogers.

Have a WONDERFUL DAY.
