bildeCheck out this Florida Today article by Lee Nessel on March 27th about the Knoebel family and their preparations for the 2009 season!

Tom Knoebel and his daughter, Bea, 14, will compete in the first race of the 2009 STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series, April 4-5, in Avon Park.

“Did your dad get you into it?” I asked Bea.

“No, I’m the one who got him into it,” said the freshman musician in the Fine Arts Academy at Satellite High. She plays the bass and tuba at school, and guitar, electric bass, keyboard and mandolin at home.

“A lot of (racing) is just the adrenaline rush. I was 12 when I started, and it was basically as close as I could get to moving parts as fast I could. I couldn’t jump right to cars.”

She said she also enjoys tinkering with the motors, a big part of lawn mower racing.
